In the book series Harry Dresden by Jim Butcher, Harry Dresden is a wizard who lives in Chicago. In the first book, "Changes," Harry is in a bit of a slump. His powers are waning and he can't seem to get noticed by the Council for the Wardens. So Harry decides to join them, but when they ask him about his credentials he makes up an expert consulting firm called "Harry Dresden's Magical Menagerie," and they let him in! The next book in the series is titled "Dead Beat," and in it Harry is still working with the Council, but things don't go well.

Then in book three of the series, "Storm Front," Harry goes back to his old ways, but there's a new problem. Harry's sister has been kidnapped by a group of people who call themselves The O'Bannons! The first few chapters of the novel show us what happens when Harry first attempts to help his sister, which ends up making things much worse for her.
